Expression of Ability - การแสดงออกถึงความสามารถ

Can มีเพียงสองรูป คือ can กับ could - "Can" has only 2 forms which are "can" & "could".
แต่ be able to สามารถผันตาม Tense ได้ - but " be able to " is inflected in the various Tenses.
กลุ่ม Simple ( Simple Category )
Past - I couldn't sleep last night.
I was not able to sleep last night.
เมื่อคืนวานฉันนอนไม่หลับ
Present - I can't sleep.
I am not able to sleep.
ฉันไม่สามารถนอนได้ (ฉันนอนไม่หลับ)
Future - I will not be able to sleep tomorrow night.
คืนพรุ่งนี้ฉันคงจะนอนไม่หลับ
กลุ่ม Perfect ( Perfect Category )
Past - I had not been able to sleep before I met the doctor.
ฉันเคยนอนไม่หลับอยู่ช่วงหนึ่งก่อนที่จะได้พบกับคุณหมอ
Present - I have not been able to sleep recently.
ช่วงหลังมานี้ฉันนอนไม่หลับเลย
Expression of Possibility - การแสดงออกถึงความเป็นไปได้
- could / would / should / may / might
I. การคาดเดาความเป็นไปได้ในอดีต - Possibility in the Past

The situation was bad
but it could have been worse.
สถานการณ์ตอนนั้นแย่นะ แต่มันสามารถเลวร้ายได้กว่านั้น
( ถือว่าโชคดีแล้วที่ไม่แย่ไปกว่านั้นนะ)

พวกเค้าจะมาถึงวันพรุ่งนี้ เวลาไหนก็เป็นไปได้ทั้งนั้น
